Dr. Yue Gu is a Chinese teacher at St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy. She received her PhD. in Curriculum and Instructions from the University of Toledo. She has been a Chinese teacher in the United States for over 12 years with extensive experience of Teaching Chinese as heritage/foreign language (CFL/CHL) to K-16 learners. She also worked as a research assistant for Chinese Heritage Language Education & Research (CHELER) funded by the US Department of Education, which aims to maximize the national languages resource and develop Chinese heritage language programs/schools with community involvement in 2009-2013. She worked as the program coordinator or master teacher for the federally funded STARTALK-CHELER teacher training program in 2013-2018. Her research interests include CFL/CHL curriculum development and instructional materials development, sociolinguistic competence and proficiency of heritage/bilingual language learners, project-based learning, content area reading, technology integration in FL teaching as well as teacher education.
