Senior Lecturer and Director of the Korean Language program at American University

Dr. Shin has taught both heritage and non-heritage students in various settings, including colleges, U.S. government facilities, Korean heritage schools, and K-12 public schools. Dr. Shin developed an online curriculum for upper-level Korean courses in Fairfax County Public Schools. She also worked with Korean heritage schools and K-16 teachers as a lead instructor and curriculum developer for Korean teachers through the STARTALK Programs at George Mason University in 2015-2021 and Kansas City Chinese School North’s STARTALK Fundamentals for Chinese & Korean Teachers in 2021. She is the co-author of Epic Korean, the Korean textbook series organized based on the ACTFL’s World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. She has worked with Korean heritage school teachers while doing community outreach programs, providing several teachers’ workshops, and serving on the Education Advisory Committee for the Washington Association of Korean Schools. She is an ACTFL-certified Korean OPI tester and WPT rater.
