Professor of the World Languages and Cultures Department, Director of the Asian Studies Program at the University of Toledo

Dr. Cheng has taught foreign language teacher education courses since 1995 and has extensive experience in teaching Chinese and Spanish. She is the advisor of teacher candidates of Ohio teaching licensure programs in Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. Dr. Cheng was the program director and instructor of the STARTATALK-CHELER Chinese Leadership Program for Chinese heritage school teacher leaders at the University of Toledo from 2013 to 2018 and was the program director/instructor/coach of the 2021 STARTALK Fundamentals for Chinese and Korean Teachers Program hosted by the Kansas City Chinese Schools North. She has been actively involved in community-based Chinese heritage schools as a parent, a teacher, a researcher, a board member, and the head of a weekend Chinese heritage school. She is also the Chinese representative of the Coalition of Community-Based Heritage Language Schools in the U. S.
